Aug 2014 - Genesee County Museum
Civil War Encampment Overnight 2014
Spend the night at the museum’s Civil War gas balloon encampment. Meet professor Thaddeus Lowe and learn how his marvelous balloons get off the ground. Experience a hydrogen gas demonstration, participate in a military drill, enjoy a campfire and take an evening lantern lit walk through the historic village. Participants will sleep in Civil War era tents. Evening snack and a continental breakfast provided. We strongly encourage small groups to invite another group to share in your overnight experience to make it cost effective. Maximum group size of 40 (scouts and adults).
When? Arrive 6:30pm Sat. 8/11 (eat before you come)
Program?Comets & Meteors. That night is a big meteor shower that we should be able to see. Also, Saturn & Mars will be out.Upon arrival everyone will meet in the Space & Science Room then be split up into group and rotated to different programs, Solar System, Computer Lab & Telescope. Each scout will earn their Astronomy Belt Loop if they don’t have it already. AND...they will provide a movie or we can bring our own DVD.
Cost? Parents $5, Siblings $30
Food? Includes a continental breakfast
Sleeping Arrangements? Outside in tents and/or inside in rooms w/sleeping bags No campfires allowed
Leave? Around 8pm
Nearby? On way up or way back home stop by Ross Zoo (of course Chuckie Cheese, Harbor Freight Tools & Christmas Tree Shop are also in Binghamton :)
